ETC (Electronic Toll Collection), namely electronic toll collection without stopping, can be used in automatic toll collection scenarios such as expressways, Bridges and parking lots. It uses on-board electronic devices installed on the vehicle's windshield to conduct dedicated short-range communication with microwave antennas in the ETC lanes of toll stations, and then uses computer networking technology to settle accounts with the bank's back-end, enabling vehicles to complete the payment of highway or bridge tolls without stopping.

ETC is one of the important service functions of the intelligent transportation system. At expressway toll stations, there are dedicated ETC toll collection channels. This toll collection system takes less than two seconds for each vehicle to collect toll, and its traffic capacity is 5 to 10 times that of manual toll collection channels. The adoption of fully automatic electronic toll collection can achieve paperless and cashless management of highway toll collection, fundamentally prevent the loss of toll ticket funds, solve the problem of chaotic financial management, and also save infrastructure and management costs.

The ETC system uses vehicle automatic identification technology to achieve wireless data communication between vehicles and toll stations, automatically sense and identify vehicles, and exchange relevant charging data.
